Manchester City top the Premier League with a hard-fought win over Sheffield United
Manchester City snatched a hard-fought 2-1 win over hosts Sheffield United on Sunday in the third round of the Premier League, which also saw Aston Villa beat Burnley 3-1.
The first half ended in a goalless draw between the two teams after Erling Haaland, Manchester City's top scorer, missed a penalty in the 37th minute.
In the second half, Manchester City managed to score the opening goal in the 63rd minute through a header from Erling Haaland, but Jayden Bogle equalized for Sheffield United in the 85th minute, before Rodrigo Hernández scored the winning goal for Manchester City in the 88th minute.
Manchester City top the standings with nine points after winning their first two games against Burnley 3-0 and Newcastle United 1-0.
On the other hand, Sheffield United remain without points, having lost their first two games to Crystal Palace 0-1 and Nottingham Forest 1-2.
In the second game, Aston Villa beat Burnley 3-1.
Aston Villa's goals were scored by Matty Cash in the 8th and 20th minutes and Moussa Dembélé in the 61st minute, while Burnley's goal was scored by Jay Rodriguez in the 47th minute.
Aston Villa raised their tally to six points in sixth place, while Burnley remain without points.
